چکیده
P a t i e n t s 201 patients who were ≥ 18 years of age (mean age 55 y, 56% men) and had objectively confirmed acute VTE (deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism). Exclusion criteria were a baseline international normalized ratio (INR) > 1.4, platelet count < 50 × 109 cells/mL, need for hospitalization, use of oral anticoagulant therapy in the previous 2 weeks, or high risk for major bleeding. 90-day follow-up was complete.

Prospective assessment of a nomogram for the initiation of oral anticoagulation therapy for outpatient treatment of venous thromboembolism.
Venous thromboembolism is a common medical problem. Recently, the emphasis has been on a switch to outpatient low molecular weight heparin therapy. Previous warfarin nomograms have been developed only for inpatients. We prospectively assessed a warfarin initiation nomogram in 105 consecutive outpatients; the nomogram requires International Normalized Ratio (INR) testing on only days 3, 5, and 8...
متن کاملOnce daily enoxaparin for outpatient treatment of acute venous thromboembolism: a case-control study.
We studied the efficacy and safety of an investigational enoxaparin regimen, 1.5 mg/kg once daily, as a bridge to warfarin for the outpatient treatment of acute venous thromboembolism. We undertook a case-control design. We enrolled 40 acute venous thromboembolism cases prospectively and matched them by age, gender, and location of venous thromboembolism to 80 previously treated controls. All c...
متن کاملUse of a heparin nomogram for treatment of patients with venous thromboembolism in a community hospital.
BACKGROUND The application of a heparin dosing nomogram in the treatment of patients with venous thromboembolism resulted in improvement of heparin therapy in clinical research settings. In 1992 a heparin nomogram was introduced in our hospital, which is a community hospital where anticoagulant therapy is supervised by the attending physicians. We studied whether comparable improvements were ac...
متن کاملExtended treatment of venous thromboembolism.
Patients with provoked venous thromboembolism caused by transient risk factors can generally stop anticoagulation after 3 months of treatment. For patients with unprovoked venous thromboembolism, for which the risk of recurrence is as high as 40% at 5 years,1 it may be appropriate to consider a longer course of therapy. However, deciding how to balance the risks and benefits of extended anticoa...
متن کاملXimelagatran versus warfarin for prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism in major orthopedic surgery: systematic review of randomized controlled trials.
BACKGROUND Ximelagatran has been recently studied for prophylaxis in surgical orthopedic cases. PURPOSE We proposed to establish whether interventions involving ximelagatran, as compared with warfarin, would increase thromboembolic prophylaxis in patients undergoing major orthopedic knee surgery. DATA SOURCE Studies with random assignment were identified by an electronic search of the medic...
